Ah, the NFL. Or as so many like to say, the “National FOOTBALL League.” Welcome back. This is a post about National FOOTBALL League GameDay Speed – and what it can teach executives about their speed and tempo in the workplace.

For comparison sake, it might be helpful to see just how fast National FOOTBALL League speed really IS:

Translating GameDay Speed into the Workplace

So what does this mean to the average manager, director, or vice president — or an ABOVE-average manager, director, or vice president, such as yourself?!

Well, for one thing, it likely means that as fast as you THINK you’re working, you’re likely not working National FOOTBALL League fast. Translated, here’s what upping your GameDay Speed might look like:

  • Instead of HAVING to say something like, “Gee, I don’t know the answer, but let me find out,” you’re ABLE to say, “I’ve actually already been thinking along those lines and  here’s what I know.”
  • Instead of HAVING to say something like, “Gee, I don’t know who to call, but let me ask around,” you’re ABLE to say, “I actually know PRECISELY who to talk with and have already had some preliminary conversations with them on the matter.”
  • Instead of  HAVING to say something like, “Gee, I don’t know how I’m going to get this surprise assignment finished that quickly,” you’re ABLE to say, “I actually figured there’d be something coming down the pike on this, so I cleared my calendar so I’d be ready.”
  • Instead of HAVING to say something like, “Gee, I don’t know what’s causing the delay, but I’ll find out,” you’re ABLE to say, “I actually got an update just this morning and here’s what I found out; here’s what I did about it.”

GameDay Speed. Ready? Set? Hut One. Hut Two. Hike!
